Curtis "Curt" Arthur Nyquist, 72, of Gladstone passed away at home on September 16, 2022 surrounded by his family after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on June 4, 1950 in Stambaugh, MI to William and Betty (Johnson) Nyquist, Curt was raised in Iron River, MI and graduated from Iron River High School in 1968. Having excelled in welding in high school he was awarded a scholarship to attend Hobart Welding school in Troy, Ohio where he earned welding certifications in multiple process'. Upon completion of welding school, he worked briefly for Harnischfeger Corporation in Milwaukee before joining the U.S. Navy in 1969. After completing boot camp in Great Lakes, IL Curt was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, served one tour in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1973 as an E-5. After the service Curt settled in Gladstone. He married the former Bonnie Bergquist on May 11, 1979. Over the years, he worked at Harnischfeger in the boom welding section and the cab plant, Chicago and Northwestern ore docks, as a welder for the pipefitters at the paper mill, and ran an over the road trucking company as an owner-operator hauling flat-bed loads. Eventually Curt took a job at Schinella-Mottes Construction working with his father for many years on a portable rock crushing plant. When his father retired, he was promoted into his position as crushing foreman. In 2000 Curt went out on his own and started Northstar Crushing and Screening. This endeavor resulted in a very successful company being created from scratch and will be carried on by his son, Josh. Curt is survived by his wife Bonnie Nyquist; children, Jake (Jessica), Josh (Joani), and Jeremy (Katie) Nyquist, and Jessica (Dustin) Dittrich; grandchildren, Patton, Nola, Johanna, Rubie, Hazel, Teresa, Adelina, and William Nyquist, Harper Nyquist, Noah Nyquist, and Jax and Taylor Dittrich; mother, Betty Nyquist of Gladstone; sister, Chris (Nick) Pierquet of Crivitz, WI; and in-laws, Dale (Kathy) Bergquist and Sherry (Charlie) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father, William Nyquist; in-laws, Ed and Dorothy Bergquist; brothers-in-law, Bill Baumgartner and Lawrence Bergquist; and granddaughter, Angel Nyquist. At Curt's request no funeral or visitation will take place. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
