Developer Simogo and publisher Annapurna Interactive have promised to deliver a “chilling tale” and a modern take on puzzle adventure games with Lorelei and The Laser Eyes, a bizarre non-linear title that’s heading to the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2023. The game was part of the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase reveal yesterday.

The description of Lorelei and The Laser Eyes is cryptic in terms of the story. You play as a woman wandering an old baroque manor (or is it a hotel or a museum?) somewhere in central Europe, searching for answers. Those answers involve puzzle-solving in the mansion, as well as several bizarre characters. An international author with strange motivations. A murdered artist. A mysterious drifter and illusionist.

And just what drives your character? Why are you here in this place? And how does this all fit together? Is it all part of a macabre game, some grand conspiracy, or is it all just a simple treasure hunt?

If you were expecting answers from the trailer, you’re going to be left disappointed, as it’s as cryptic and surreal as the game’s description. But hey, that’s all part of the fun. Steam users can wishlist Lorelei and The Laser Eyes today.

Writer/Artist/Gamer from the Great White North. I try not to be boring.

Ahead of the release of what’s probably the most anticipated DLC of the year, Capcom has released a trailer for Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. The trailer delves into more details regarding “The Mercenaries Additional Orders” component, which will allow players to play as Lady Dimitrescu, Lord Karl Heisenberg, or Chris Redfield in the returning Mercenaries Mode.

Per the press release, each character has their own unique traits while playing Additional Orders. Lady Dimitrescu has a Thrill meter that increases by having her slice up enemies, which allows her to perform special actions like slamming down hostiles or summoning her daughters. Lord Karl Heisenberg is able to utilize his Soldat Jets as an attack, and can also use his magnetic powers to pull enemies towards him or fling scrap metal. Lastly, Chris is able to build up his Onslaught gauge from dispatching foes. When Onslaught is active, Chris’ movement and reload speed is increased. Chris can also request support from the Hound Wolf Squad by using his target locator to pinpoint enemy positions and call in support strikes.

In addition to the characters, the trailer also introduces the new stages “Bloody Village” and “Bloody River.”

“The Mercenaries Additional Orders” is only one addition to Resident Evil Village Gold Edition. Also included is the “Shadows of Rose” story expansion, which follows Ethan’s daughter Rose as she tries to be rid of her powers. That’s also on top of the new “Third-Person Mode”, which gives players a literal whole new dimension when playing the full campaign.

Resident Evil Village Gold Edition arrives October 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
